Because DNA provides the blueprint for the proteins your cells need to function, this damage can cause serious issues—including cancer. (DNA) คือ สารพันธุกรรม เป็นกรดดีออกซีไรโบนิวคลีอิก (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) ซึ่งเป็นจำพวกกรดนิวคลีอิก DNA ส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในนิวเคลียสของเซลล์ โดยพันตัวอยู่บนโครโมโซม(Chromosome) มักพบในเซลล์ของสิ่งมีชีวิตทุกชนิด ได้แก่ คน (Human), สัตว์ (Animal), พืช (Plant), เห็ดและรา (Fungi), แบคทีเรีย (Bacteria), ไวรัส (Virus) เป็นต้น ดีเอ็นเอ (DNA) ทำการเก็บข้อมูลทางพันธุกรรมของสิ่งมีชีวิตชนิดหนึ่งๆเอาไว้ ซึ่งมีลักษณะที่มีการผสมผสานมาจากสิ่งมีชีวิตรุ่นก่อน ซึ่งก็คือ รุ่นพ่อและแม่ (Parent) ทั้งยังสามารถถ่ายทอดลักษณะไปยังสิ่งมีชีวิตรุ่นถัดไป ซึ่งก็คือรุ่นลูก หรือ รุ่นหลาน
